Translational ecosystems where collaborative problem solving accelerates life science research and healthcare innovation.
Unlike many networks and alliances the core of a BioPharma X ecosystem is a multi-disciplinary and multi-stakeholder co-design process which delivers unique value:
-
Solve any problem
The depth of knowledge and experience in an ecosystem has the potential to outperform any supercomputer when it comes to problem solving. We facilitate the use of collective intelligence to solve problems faster and with less effort.
-
Unexpected connections
We seek out points of connection and then make them concrete through the development of exploratory and pilot projects. Just getting people together and hoping they will connect is not enough!
-
Meeting organizational needs
Academia, industry, and NGOs are aligned on the goals of improving the lives of patients, but their organizational needs are not always aligned. With 16 years of experience and over 15.000 hours of facilitating multi-stakeholder dialogue we provide an efficient process for design of projects that serve everyone’s needs while making the process of concluding project agreements easier.
-
Early wins
Because the ecosystem is about building up trust and relationships (social capital) needed to have a stakeholder balanced project design process, projects that come out of a BioPharma X ecosystem deliver early wins as well as ambitious longer-term goals.
-
Meaningful impact
When you work in a large collective the assembled knowledge, experience, and resources mean that you can assemble projects that make a real difference.
-
Data and samples
Data and samples often go unused because people are not aware they exist, or they need to be used only in the context of a project. Here is where the value of a strong design process helps to make the use of data and samples beneficial to all. Effective use of data and samples is about bringing disciplines and stakeholders together and providing the tools and opportunities to build awareness about available data and samples.
-
Unparalleled learnng
Learning from articles, books, even presentations is different than what you learn from dialogue with people engaged in problem solving and projects. Methods sections of papers don’t describe what did not work. Our approach builds the relationships and provides the facilitation to bring implicit knowledge that one gains from working in projects and solving problems together to the forefront
-
Substantial funding
Open innovation networks, ‘big science ‘ , and ‘big innovation’ are increasingly becoming the focus of major funding programs. The proposals that win those funding bids are not developed in few weeks by people who don’t know each other. One’s best chance for accessing that funding is to have a network of relationships and the support of expert designers so that you can proactively and with minimal effort pursue substantial funding opportunities such as those put forth by the Innovative Health Initiative (IHI).
Membership
Membership in an ecosystem is broken down into four categories:
Member
Free membership is only available to partners of a consortium that is affiliated with the ecosystem or members of the DRAGON, T2EVOLVE, or imSAVAR stakeholder communities.
Consortium affiliation
Consortia affiliate with an ecosystem if they provide the description of their assets (data, samples, protocols etc.). It is not about sharing the asset. Descriptions will be used to include assets in the development of projects but only on agreement of the controlling consortium.
What you get:
Free membership for your consortium partners
Opportunities for funding for your assets that are used in ecosystem developed projects.
What you get:
Attendance at ecosystem meetings
Spotlight sessions: meetings and dialogue on specific topics presented by ecosystem partners used to develop new project ideas
Dataset masterclasses: workshops on specific datasets to learn about the dataset and to develop new ideas
Monthly mastermind: facilitated dialog to solve problems and scan the horizon for new opportunities
Science Cafe’s: patient or other stakeholder questions answered by ecosystem experts in a discussion format
Participation in exploratory/pilot projects
Partner
Partners are public, NGOs, and small companies that pay a minimal yearly membership.
What you get:
All that is included in the free membership
Ability to present at ecosystem meetings
Participation in the yearly strategic planning process
Proposing and leading pilot/exploration projects
Opportunity to take part in proposals for funding
Leader
Any type of organization can join at the leader level but medium to large industry can only join at the leader level.
What you get:
All that is included in the free and partner memberships
Opportunity to have monthly 1:1 strategy calls with ecosystem team
Development of oganization level objectives and key results
Core team participation in strategy development
Leadership roles in funded projects
Executive team for funding proposal development
Apply to become a partner.

Precision Medicine BioPharma X
An ecosystem developing connections, collaborations, and projects under the umbrella concept of precision medicine. This ecosystem has some of the most exciting examples of cross disease area collaborations and use of datasets.
This ecosystem grew out of the Innovative Medicines Initiative U-BIOPRED consortium. It is one of the only IMI consortia that has achieved a sustained collaboration that has lasted more than eight years after the funding period ended.
Advanced therapies BioPharma X
Developing out of the IMI projects T2EVOLVE and imSAVAR. Advanced therapies BioPharma X is about being part of the groundswell of advanced therapies which are likely to become the third pillar of medicine.
